It is very difficult to answer, if somebody asks to define our life in a single geometrical shape because life is not static but dynamic blend of square (stability and instability), triangle (balance and unbalances), circle (life cycle, renewal and continuity) and so on, recognizing these shapes and patterns help us understanding the complexities of life with clarity, purpose and resilience.

Therefore, explaining to common people, the importance of the recent visit of Prime Minister Shri Narendera Modi to two nations i.e. United States and France, I came across with an idea which struck me as novel and innovative concept called as ‘ModAngles’ by using triangle geometrical shape which are simple and can be used to explain complex and important concepts. In this I have adopted the vertices of a trinagle to denote the concepts of Geopolitics, Viksit Bharat and NetZero and the sides of the triangle to denote the interaction between them.

The recent visits of Prime Minister Shri Narendera Modi to United States and France in February 2025 has transformed the earlier ‘Scalene triangle’ (unbalanced and strained) to equilateral ‘ModAngle’ (more balanced). Furthermore, the skeptism of US president Donald Trump for the climate change and withdrawal from the Paris agreement might have setback for the global efforts taken to control climate change, but for India it has unlocked opportunities to balance economic growth with sustainable environment at its own pace and facilitated in achieving the state of equilibrium (‘MODANGLE’) to some extent. Let us examine this shift from ‘Scalene triangle’ to equilateral ‘ModAngle’ based on following points:

Geopolitics on climate: The developed nations of global north especially the Obama’s administration put undue pressure on meeting the stringent norms of climate action under Paris agreement. The expectations of developed nations to reduce the carbon emissions significantly by the developing nations, impedes the development goals of the growing economy like India without considering their own share of historical emission during their development journey.

Viksit Bharat 2047:  The primary focus of Modi’s vision on Viksit Bharat by 2047, is on economic growth, industrialisation, energy security and expansion of infrastructure to alleviate poverty and raise the living standards while maintaining the harmony with nature. Energy is required to accomplish the above visions; energy need reliance on coal and other fossil fuels This ends up into lots of carbon emission and eventually this leads to global warming and climate change and development would not be sustainable.

NetZero 2070: The Pressure of Economic growth and achieving the status of ‘Viksit Bharat’ led to comprise on environmental or climate policies. Limited funds and technology hindered large-scale adoption of renewable energy. Therefore, India’s environmental efforts were deemed insufficient internationally. It would also delay achieving India’s own target of NetZero by 2070. Thus, in the above scenario the sides of the triangle represent strained relationships due to conflicting priorities and make the strained and unbalanced Scalene triangle which has all sides of different length, all angles of different measures.

However, the ice breaking discussion and reconnect with US president Donald Trump’s  in his second term, the Prime minister Shri Narendra Modi’s recent visits to the US and France have not just strengthened diplomatic ties but have also set the stage for  balancing the equation of  global power, economic growth and environmental commitment, from boosting energy security of India by nuclear collaborations with France to negotiating lower tariffs on EVs with the US while still securing affordable and comparatively green fossil fuels (LNG) than coal, this gives India the platform to tactfully balance the development with sustainability.

This is a point of discussion that how this new dynamism of Geopolitics,Viksit Bharat and NetZero 2070 brought into the existence of equilateral balanced ‘ModAngle’ (Modi’s Triangle on Geopolitics, Viksit Bharat and NetZero):

A). Alignment of Geopolitics with the National interest and environmental priorities:  Trump’s skeptism for the climate change and withdrawal from the commitments made in Paris agreement has changed the Geopolitical dynamics. Thus, a void created in global climate leadership because of this step of US president Trump, reduced overwhelming global pressure on India and other developing nations to reduce carbon emissions. As too much pressure holds you back to perform your best than where you are in your natural rhythm similarly, without overwhelming global pressure, the country like India can work towards its renewable energy and net-zero goals at its own steady pace, making the transition more efficient, well-planned, and truly sustainable.  Additionally, the strategic partnerships between US and INDIA, France and India allowed India to assert its national interests of development more effectively.

B).  Infusion of Technologies to envision Viksit Bharat 2047:

As it is evident that the strengthened geopolitical position of India will allow to make more assertive development policies to achieve the goals of sustainable development and ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047. This diplomatic meeting would infuse the new technologies, for instance reducing the import tariffs on high technology products like high end electric vehicles (EVs), computers, GPU’s, announcement of  $2.75 billion investment made by Micron to establish a semiconductor assembly and testing plant in Gujarat, will boost India’s role in the global chip supply chain, etc. this technological infusion and absorption is likely to improve the efficiency and productivity while consuming the less energy. Therefore, eventually it leads to lower Carbon emissions and more regulated climate and environment.

C). Environmental Priorities: Recent deal with United States for the import of oil and gas allows the decentralisation of energy sources and reduces overreliance on any single nation. Civil Nuclear cooperations with France agrees to build the world’s largest nuclear power plant with six nuclear reactors in Jaitapur, Maharashtra, with France’s EDF which would add 9.6 GW of clean energy capacity and supporting 7 crore homes and estimates suggesting a reduction of over 50 million tons of CO₂ annually. EDF, France’s state-owned electricity company is also involved in modernizing India’s power grid.  Furthermore, it is enhancing India’s leadership on the global stage of climate actions. Therefore, collaboration with developed nations like US, France for the green energy (Nuclear, Solar, Wind, Hydrogen etc) technology transfer supports India’s environmental and Net Zero goals without hindering economic progress.

Therefore, these meetings were very crucial in bringing the three key vertices (Geopolitics, Viksit Bharat and Net Zero 2070) of the triangle into equilibrium state as ‘ModAngle’, symbolizing a well-aligned, sustainable future of India towards ‘Vishwa Guru’.
